The former One Direction member tragically passed away on October 16 during a holiday in Argentina. Liam died after falling from the balcony of a third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires. He had traveled to Argentina with his girlfriend for Niall Horan’s concert on October 4. The couple had planned to stay for four days, but they ended up staying for two weeks. Kate Cassidy, his girlfriend, left the country two days before the tragedy and returned to the U.S. She had grown exhausted from dealing with his drug use.
“Liam’s addiction caused many problems, which is why Kate gave him an ultimatum: either her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, and she had no choice but to walk away. Cassidy thought the relationship was too harsh, but she didn’t know it would end the way it did,” an insider shared.
Cassidy told her friends that she felt like a hostage, as Payne continued to extend their vacation in Argentina, while she had responsibilities back home. “Kate had to leave. It was becoming very dangerous for everyone. She hoped he would follow her to Miami,” a friend said.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of the British singer. His Argentine friend is being charged with leaving a person in danger, while two others are suspected of supplying the artist with illegal substances. One of the alleged drug dealers, Brian Nahuel Pais, denies any wrongdoing. The 24-year-old waiter explained that he met Payne at two hotels.
“We did drugs together, but I never brought him drugs or took money from him. Our second meeting at the hotel was on the night of Sunday, October 13. We spent the night together, used drugs, so honestly, I don’t remember much,” the man said.
Payne’s girlfriend does not believe Brian’s account. “Kate is certain he will say anything to get out of this situation. Lies upon lies. She thinks the whole interview was completely in his interest. She’s looking forward to seeing what happens when he is held accountable,” a source close to her stated.
According to the police investigation, Payne spent the day of his death with two prostitutes. The women entered his room several hours before the tragedy, during which the singer had a dispute with them in the hallway over money. His hotel room was found in disarray, with a broken laptop and television, and there were traces of drugs all over the place. After all the tests were completed, Liam’s body was handed over to his family on November 6 for repatriation to the UK, where he will be buried soon.
