After the arrest of rapper and producer Diddy (Sean Combs), who faces over 100 charges, old celebrity interviews began resurfacing online where they hinted at sexual slavery in the American entertainment industry.
People recalled the statements of former Pussycat Doll member Kaya Jones, who admitted that the group’s members were coerced into sexual relationships.
Kaya was with the Pussycat Dolls from 2003 to 2004. In 2017, she claimed that the members were forced to have sex with anyone the group’s founder, Robin Antin, pointed out.
“My truth. I wasn’t in a girl group; I was in a group of prostitutes. And it just happened that we sang and became famous while those who owned us made money,” she wrote on social media. She added that the situation was so terrible that she had to give up her dream of becoming a famous singer and a $13 million contract. Robin denied all allegations, calling them “disgusting and meaningless lies.”
Jones went on to say that she sought help from Hollywood executives in 2004, and in 2005 and 2006, she spoke to the press, but no one took her seriously at the time. She hopes that the Diddy scandal will lead to positive changes in the music industry.
“I want change, and I’m one of many showing that it’s possible. 50 Cent talks about Diddy; I think he’s been heard. Kaya Jones, who spoke about young women and how we are treated, remained unheard. I hope now you all listen to me,” Kaya said.
