Khloé Kardashian suffered a MAJOR breach of privacy that caused her to quit therapy! And it took so long to return to it!
In a new interview with Bustle out on Tuesday, The Kardashians star recalled her split from Lamar Odom. She first filed for divorce in 2013, but she withdrew the filing in 2015 when he suffered a medical crisis to help care for him. They ultimately finalized their split in 2016. It was during this time that she was turning to a therapist for support — but that person totally stabbed her in the back!
She was actually trying to explain her fitness obsession when she dished:
“My weight loss journey started because I was getting a divorce. I remember I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid. And I knew that my therapist disclosed this information to a tabloid because there’s no way this could have gotten out there.”
WTF?! That’s terrible! That therapist should have lost their license for breaking confidentiality!
She went on to call it “very jarring and sort of unbelievable” but insisted:
“But there’s not a chance in the world that it came from anywhere else.”
Jeez. So awful. Ironically, the betrayal caused KoKo to seek out new ways to work on herself — and she hit the gym! Reflecting on the gossipy confidant and what happened when she discovered the tabloid, she continued:
“So I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore. And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”
At least she turned to a positive influence instead of relying on less healthy coping mechanisms! However, she then had to deal with a whole other challenge.
The mother of two noted that when she started losing weight, she went from being “fat-shamed every day” to dealing with people calling her out for being “insecure” and “following society” by slimming down. Many also speculated she’d used popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic, which any celeb on a weight loss journey these days gets called out for. Addressing this, the model added:
“As a byproduct, my body started changing. I loved the way I felt. I loved testing myself and challenging myself. And I’ve been doing it for 10-plus years now, and I love it. Over the past three years, people are like, ‘You must have gotten surgery because you just lost weight.’ I’m like, ‘It’s been a 10-year journey! What are you talking about?’ But even if people get surgery or [get on] the Ozempic craze, I’m like, ‘Who cares!’ As long as people feel good about themselves, who am I to judge? I think it’s ridiculous, the judgment on that. I’m just mad [Ozempic] wasn’t around 10 years ago.”
Back in July, Khloé joked that she probably would have “tried” Ozempic if it were around when she first started her weight loss efforts, though she also kinda slammed it as just another “fad weight loss thing.” So, her feelings are complicated, like many.
Something she knows for sure isn’t a fad? Therapy! Despite what happened, she now goes to therapy again, thanks to some encouragement from Kim Kardashian. But she only restarted when she was 39. That’s last year! Wow. It took her that long to trust again…
On this new journey, she shared:
“Yes. She’s [her new therapist] really lovely and I really like her. It’s actually Kim’s therapist. Kim was really adamant. I was like, ‘I’ll do this for you.’ I dragged my feet, and then I was like, ‘Wow, OK, this is good. I needed this.’ And my therapist was like, ‘I think you should come three days a week.’ [Laughs.] She was like, ‘You really need to be here.’ It all worked out.”
We’re so glad that the first therapist didn’t make her lose all trust in people or the process!
