Jennifer Garner didn’t want to see Ben Affleck face another divorce.
A source told Page Six on Wednesday that the 13 Going on 30 alum really “encouraged” her ex-husband to work harder on his marriage to Jennifer Lopez — even before the pair were headed for divorce! She saw the warnings signs early — probably thanks to her firsthand experience with the actor. This latest insider shared:
“When things started getting rocky between Ben and Jennifer [Lopez], Jen was very supportive of their relationship and encouraged Ben to work on their marriage.”
Despite their complicated love triangle, the actress “had even become friendly with Jennifer [Lopez] and they were communicating on a regular basis.” So, she was really team Bennifer! Now? Not so much!
Unfortunately, the reconciled couple just couldn’t make things work — and now Jen is also distancing herself from J.Lo. The outlet learned that the Alias star “hasn’t been in touch” with the pop star, though she supposedly “has no problems with Jennifer.” She just doesn’t have any reason to chit-chat with her anymore — and her loyalties lie with her baby daddy. The source expressed:
“At the end of the day, she just wants Ben to be happy.”
Makes sense she’d side with him! They have kids after all and will always be in each other’s lives. That said, previous sources have claimed maybe there is bad blood between the Jennifers! A confidant told DailyMail.com last month:
“Her friends feel she shouldn’t have allowed herself to get so involved in helping JLo to fix her marriage to Ben. Especially considering Jen felt pitted against JLo at times during their own marriage. Jen is too nice and truly wanted to help, so she tried.”
Her boyfriend John Miller was also said to be frustrated by her efforts, and the Elektra lead was reportedly irritated that J.Lo’s sister visited her daughter Violet at college. So, yeah, it sounds like there’s some tension still! But at least she can look back and have no regrets. She did her best to help, and she was just looking out for Ben (and her kids).
We wonder how soon she picked up on the relationship issues?? Because it kind of sounds like Bennifer had a guardian angel on Ben’s shoulder, and it still wasn’t enough to change anything. Maybe they never had a chance after all?
