Selena Gomez did NOT want to run into Hailey Bieber at the Oscars… And there’s actually a pretty valid reason why!
Justin Bieber’s wife AND famous ex-girlfriend were in attendance at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars Party on Sunday night. Already awkward, right? According to DailyMail.com, Selena made a conscious effort to avoid any interactions. Makes sense to us! The Single Soon singer has been trying to avoid offscreen drama.
But a source said it was NOT because Selena has a problem with Hailey! It’s because of what would have happened afterwards in the press! On Monday, the insider told the outlet:
“There was no way Selena wanted an awkward photo and for everyone to write about it the next day. It was her night, she was a presenter at the Oscars for Emilia Pérez, a film she is proud of, so she wanted the focus on that.”
Honestly, we get that! It’s understandable that she wanted to keep the focus on the work! However, if they were to have bumped into one another… what would have happened? The source claims she wouldn’t have been a stranger:
“If they ran into each other, she would say hello of course, because Selena is a friendly person. She just wanted to avoid being photographed with her or near her because then 100 stories are born. Selena took a picture with Hailey in the past and it didn’t feel right.”
Huh. Easy to say, right? Well, Selly is a pro. She’s able to be cordial with the best of them! In fact, she previously posed together with Hailey at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ 2nd annual gala in 2022!
But the 2025 Oscars were just a different vibe… For one, Selena had more of a horse in the race as she was presenting AND her movie was nominated. But also, she’s happily moved on with Benny Blanco! She doesn’t need that toxicity! It was probably for the best all around.
