More than 100,000 people, including celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and many others were evacuated from the devastating fire zone in Los Angeles. Hundreds of homes of local residents were destroyed to the ground, and there are also more than 20 dead. Celebrities united around this tragedy: they donate millions to help the victims, and also personally volunteer, for example, like Paris Hilton. But the climate warrior, as he calls himself, Leonardo DiCaprio left Los Angeles on a private jet.
The network is outraged by the behavior of the famous actor, who is known for his protection of the environment and the fight against climate change. Just a minute, his charitable foundation has allocated more than $ 80 million in grants aimed at climate change and sustainability. But the other day, Leo, together with his girlfriend, model Vittoria Ceretti, decided to use a private jet to leave the burning LA and go to the Mexican city of Cabo San Lucas. Well, that’s it! Considering how much private jets and planes in general harm the environment, this doesn’t quite fit with Leo’s public stance.
Of course, the Internet was outraged by the actor’s behavior and users erupted in negative comments:
“Leonardo DiCaprio is a first-class hypocrite”;
“Climate warrior. What an idiot”;
“Imagine what it’s like, a multi-million dollar house burns down, and you fly to another city on a private jet to another multi-million dollar house.” Let’s add that the approximate distance between Los Angeles and Cabo San Lucas is more than 1,448 km. Flying on a private jet on this route can release between 8 and 16 metric tons of CO₂ into the air. For comparison: the average annual carbon footprint per person worldwide is only 4 metric tons. Given these numbers, such actions by self-proclaimed climate warriors raise many questions.
