Wildfires Rage in California: Death Toll Rises to 16 as Criticism Mounts Against Celebrities Over Water Use
California’s devastating wildfires have left many homeless, with the death toll climbing to 16. Public anger is growing, particularly toward A-list stars accused of ignoring water conservation rules to maintain their massive gardens.
Since 2022, Los Angeles has enforced strict water-saving laws, limiting residents to watering their gardens twice a week for just eight minutes. Kim Kardashian, whose luxury estate lies near the epicenter of one fire, was fined last year for exceeding her water allowance by nearly 900,000 liters.
Other celebrities fined include Sylvester Stallone and comedian Kevin Hart. Despite reports that Kardashian has since taken steps to conserve water, her neighbors remain skeptical. “In a time when everyone was told to save water for potential firefighting, they kept watering because they could afford the fines,” one local said.
Adding to the frustration, wealthy homeowners are reportedly hiring private firefighters at rates of $2,000 per hour to protect their properties, further fueling resentment.
Meanwhile, Khloé Kardashian joined other Los Angeles residents in criticizing Mayor Karen Bass. LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley accused the mayor of failing the city by significantly cutting the fire department’s budget months before the wildfires broke out.
Khloé shared her reaction, saying, “I completely agree! You speak the truth with tears in your eyes. You didn’t want to say it, but it’s the reality! Thank you for your honesty. Mayor Bass—you’re a disgrace!”
It was also revealed that Kim Kardashian, along with her children, sisters, and mother, had to evacuate their Los Angeles home due to the raging fires.
