Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship was in turbulent waters, to say the least. Their court case involving allegations of domestic abuse went on for months and months, garnering the attention of people from every corner of the planet. Before Amber Heard, Johnny Depp was in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis for 14 years.
When Amber Heard came into the actor’s life, reports stated that she was jealous of his ex and the mother of his two children. Moreover, Johnny Depp had to sell his luxurious yacht that was so close to his heart because of this reported jealousy. However, Amber Heard’s discomfort with Vanessa Paradis wasn’t the only reason behind the sale.
Johnny Depp Bought a Yacht for Vanessa Paradis
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis were together for fourteen long years before they went their separate ways. During this period, the most low-key couple in Hollywood had two children together, Lily-Rose and Jack Depp.
In 2012, Depp and Paradis announced their split and soon after, he began a romantic relationship with Amber Heard. We all know how that went down.
While with Paradis, he gifted a beautiful yacht to her, and together, they named it Vajoliroja – an amalgamation of their family’s names (Vanessa, Johnny, Lily-Rose, and Jack).
The yacht wasn’t your ordinary boat. He bought a pre-owned yacht and took it upon himself to transform it into the masterpiece that it eventually became.
Heard’s reported jealousy played a significant role in Depp’s decision to sell his yacht. According to a source who confided in US Weekly, “Johnny loved that yacht. But he bought it for Vanessa. And Amber is still jealous of her.”
However, this wasn’t the only reason Depp decided to part ways with Vajoliroja that was renamed Amphitrite after his wedding to Heard.
The Yacht Was Sold for $27 Million
An actor of Depp’s caliber, it goes without saying that he would want to enjoy a lavish lifestyle. He sure deserves it. However, a life of luxuries sure doesn’t come for free and the yacht had to pay the price.
In order to keep up with his high-end lifestyle, Depp decided to sell Amphitrite – named after the Greek goddess of the sea.
Eventually, he found a buyer who was interested in the glitz and glam of it all – the buyer being none other than Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling herself.
Rowling, thanks to her humungous empire, was able to purchase the boat despite the hefty price tag of $27 million. And thus, the yacht had to go through yet another naming ceremony where it went from Amphitrite to Arriva.
Unfortunately, Arriva and Rowling’s relationship didn’t last forever and she ended up selling it for a loss. It has now found its new home under mysterious ownership.
