If you were like us when you heard the news this week that Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz called off their engagement and split after three years together, you were completely shocked!
It was just a couple of weeks ago that we saw the pair at all lovey-dovey while promoting their film Blink Twice! Channing even shared a super sweet tribute to Zoë last month, saying:
“Thank you for finding me and seeing me. I got you forever. Me and you back to back against it all. I’ll never blink.”
Then we blinked, and all of a sudden they broke up! And all we want to know now is what the heck happened! How did they go from looking so in love to being over? Well, the answer we first got was that “they haven’t been on the same page and grew apart,” causing them to end things last weekend. There was no further explanation at the time.
However, we had a feeling there was a lot more to the story. This seemed way too fast for the old “grown apart” line. And now, more details are rolling in! A source shared with People on Friday:
“The split is amicable. They realized they’re at different stages in life. Channing spends a lot of time in Los Angeles because of his daughter, but Zoë prefers NYC.”
The actor shares 11-year-old daughter Everly with ex-wife Jenna Dewan, so he can’t just pack up his stuff and head to New York City with Zoë for good! And we guess that drove a wedge between them in the end. Oof. It happens… Distance breaks up couples just as surely as disagreements.
Fortunately, when the People insider said they ended amicably, turns out they meant it! An insider for Page Six said there’s “no bad blood” between the former couple. In fact, they’re still “in touch” with each other! Wow! The definition of friendly exes — at least, for now! We all know how these stars can go from amicable to enemies in a minute following a breakup at times! The insider continued:
“There was no dramatic falling out between Channing and Zoë. They really just grew apart and decided it was best for them to go their separate ways.”
According to the source, Channing and Zoë “both handled the breakup very maturely” as “they came to a mutual realization that they were better off friends than romantic partners.” Damn…
And the proof they are handling the split “maturely?” Hours before their breakup news, multiple outlets revealed Zoë and Channing were starring in a movie together! It’s an alien invasion movie called Alpha Gang, and they’re starring with Cate Blanchett, Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, and Riley Keough. What a cast! But also so awkward, right? With two exes working together on set for hours, it’s bound to be a little weird for everyone involved. However, the two aren’t letting their split get in the way of work! A production insider confirmed to People that they plan to move forward with the project despite calling it quits:
“They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë’s focus and passion.”
They really are taking the mature route here! Wow! (Though other sources wonder if working together again is going to bring them right back into a reconciliation…)
Zoë isn’t the only one still on good terms with Channing. Her dad is, too. Page Six’s insider said Lenny Kravitz has “no hard feelings” towards the Step Up alum as the singer “understands that these things happen and just wants them to both be happy.” That’s what’s important at the end of the day here! Of course, the breakup must be hard for Lenny as well since he and Channing grew “really close over the past few years.” The source noted the 21 Jump Street star adored Zoë and “felt a strong bond with Lenny as well,” adding:
“And the feeling was mutual on Lenny’s end.”
Aw! Perhaps Lenny and Channing will remain pals despite the breakup! We mean, the Fly Away singer is still friendly with ex-wife Lisa Bonet‘s ex-husband Jason Momoa!
