This week, it was revealed that Meghan and Harry bought a house in Portugal to obtain a “golden visa,” allowing them to travel freely within the Schengen area. However, the Portuguese are unhappy about this.
Access to public beaches was illegal in Portugal until recently. However, new regulations allow beaches to be private, resulting in the closure of many popular spots that locals have always frequented.
Now, at the Costa Terra resort in Comporta, what was once a public shoreline has turned into an exclusive area for owners of luxury properties, including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Bradley McGuinness, who lives near the controversial couple’s new mansion, expressed the general sentiment. “The worst thing that could happen to the Portuguese coastline is a typical case of greed. Taking land and property away from locals who have enjoyed it for many years,” Bradley lamented.
André Andrade agrees with him. “I’m very upset about this huge piece of Portuguese land now being available only to the wealthy, while the average local, whose warm memories of this area span generations, is excluded,” André noted.
“I’ve been going to this place for many years; my friends and I have camped there several times, but now that’s no longer possible,” complained another local resident, Diana Keirush.
